Val Parker, Program Coordinator
Val
joined POWER 4 Youth as Program Coordinator at the program’s inception in the
summer of 1999 as the first staff member to join the team. In the summer
of 2008 she was promoted to Executive Director.
Her professional background consists of twenty-five years in the non-profit
volunteer management field, working primarily with youth-serving agencies. Most
notably, Val worked for the Orange County
Girl Scout Council, one of the largest Councils in the
United States serving over 28,000 girls. Prior to joining POWER 4 Youth, she
served as Director of Membership Extension for the Girl Scouts, where she was
responsible for bringing the Girl Scout Program to under-served and un-served
populations throughout Orange County. She has held positions with the 4-H Youth Program, Balin
Technical School and Santa Ana Parks and Recreation Department.
Val holds a B.A. degree from California State University Long Beach in Home
Economics, with emphasis on child and family development.
Miasha Malveaux, Program Assistant
Miasha joined POWER 4 Youth in January 2009. She currently is a student at Long Beach City College with a major in administration and justice. Her career goal after completing graduate school is to become a clinical/forensic psychologist. One of six children, she graduated from Poly High School. Though diagnosed with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, Miasha is very busy with her church, school and family. Her skills are wide-ranging, which are appreciated as she assists to keep the office running smoothly.
